The first book in the The Jenna Fox Chronicles, it is a brand new addition to the Book Club Collection. We love it when book clubs and libraries donate their book sets to us after they’re done reading, making them available to all the other book clubs across the state. Thanks to John A. Stahl Library in West Point, we have eight copies of this title available as your next book club read. Jenny Torres Sanchez writes children’s and young adult fiction that has been a finalist for the Pura Belpre Award and included on the American Library Association’s annual list of Best Fiction for Young Adults. Ahh, the smell of freshly sharpened pencils and new erasers, makes us want to go out and buy school supplies! This week’s #BookFace is a reminder that a Book Club Kit is the perfect summer reading tool.
This service allows libraries and school librarians to “check out” multiple copies of a book without adding to their permanent collections, or budgets. We have a great selection of kids/YA titles for you to choose from, like “All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook” by Leslie Connor (Katherine Tegen Books, 2017). You can search for books based on grade level, genre, the number of copies available, or keywords, helping librarians and teachers find great reads for their YA book clubs.

Get the tissue box ready, because I don’t know about you, but I cannot read a book about dogs without the flood gates opening. I blame Old Yeller, and Where the Red Fern Grows, but let’s just face it, they’re called man’s best friend for a reason. #BookFaceFriday – Book Drive!
Happy #BookFaceFriday to all the young readers out there!
No matter the book, whether it’s about Christmas, Hanukkah, or Halloween, we want it for our annual Children/YA book drive! Just like one of this year’s donated books, “Witches of Brooklyn: What the Hex?!: (A Graphic Novel)” written and illustrated by Sophie Escabasse (Random House Graphic, 2021.) Anyone and everyone are welcome to drop off donated books. We need them by the end of the day TODAY, so we can deliver them to the Salvation Army tonight. Every year, for the last 30+ years, Nebraska Library Commission staff collect new or gently used books for children and teens to be donated to the People’s City Mission and the Salvation Army for their Christmas giveaway for youth in need. The books come from all over. Brought from homes, bought new in stores, or purchased at thrifting excursions, Lincoln City Library’s book sale, or the Scholastic Book Sale. Our models this week spearhead this program, Children and Young Adult Library Services Coordinator, Sally Snyder, and Janet Greser, who runs Computer Help Desk Support. The third model is Janet’s daughter, Amanda Heier, who has been helping them get the books ready by cleaning off stickers and wiping down donated books. With her assistance, we are ready to deliver books to the Salvation Army!

When life gives you lemons, we make #BookFace!
NLC’s #BookFaceFriday is joining forces with Nebraska’s Reading Classic Committee! Reading Classics is a statewide competition that promotes and encourages Nebraska Schools to form teams and recognize outstanding young readers. They just launched a friendly #BookFace competition as students await the new 2019-2020 reading list. “Lemons” by Melissa Savage (Yearling, 2018). It’s one of the 10 nominated titles for the 2019-2020 Golden Sower Chapter Books list!

Jane Austen really knows how to tell it like it is. This title comes from our large collection of children’s and young adult books sent to us as review copies from book publishers. When our Children and Young Adult Library Services Coordinator, Sally Snyder, is done with them, the review copies are available for the Library System Directors to distribute to school and public libraries in their systems. Fire burn, and cauldron bubble, we saved the creepiest cover for our Halloween BookFaceFriday! “The Book of Lies” by Teri Terry (Clarion Books, 2017) practically jumped off the shelves as this week’s choice. #BookFaceFriday “Okay for Now” & “Maniac Magee”
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream in this week’s #BookFaceFriday.
Hold onto your cone, we’ve got a two-scoop #BookFace for you this week! A few of the staff over in the Talking Book & Braille department were kind enough to help us out with this week’s Book Face (they were generously compensated with ice cream). We’re excited to highlight two great YA books in our book club collection, “Maniac Magee” by Jerry Spinelli (Little, Brown Books for Young Readers, 1999) and “Okay for Now” by Gary D.
