Dolly Parton was not only a music industry icon, but a literary icon as well. One of the biggest legacies she left behind is the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income. If you’re interested in learning more about her life and legacy consider checking out “Ain’t Nobody’s Fool: The Life and Times of Dolly Parton” by Martha Ackmann (St. Martin’s Press, 2025), which is available as an eBook and audiobook on Nebraska OverDrive Libraries. Ackmann is a journalist who writes about women who have changed America. You can find this title, along with Dolly Parton’s own books including two autobiographies, two children’s books, her collaboration with James Patterson, and her cookbook through Nebraska OverDrive.

#BookFaceFriday “Larceny at the Library” by Colleen J. Shogan
Don’t you dare Shush this #BookFaceFriday!
After a swanky evening soiree at the Library of Congress, a body is discovered in the library! What follows is a classic whodunit that will take readers from the inner bowels of the Library of Congress, Ford’s Theatre, the National Portrait Gallery, and the D.C. Public Library. “Larceny at the Library” by Colleen J. Shogan, is the perfect pick for this week, as we’re in D.C. for the National Book Festival this weekend! We were lucky to get to attend an event at the Library of Congress, fingers crossed we don’t find any bodies. This title is available as an eBook through Nebraska OverDrive Libraries, it’s a part of Shogan’s “Washington Whodunit” series. The series consists of eight books, seven of which are available on OverDrive.
Congressional staffer Kit Marshall is excited to attend a historic event displaying the contents of Abraham Lincoln’s pockets the night he was assassinated at the Library of Congress. The next day, a senior librarian is dead and several invaluable artifacts are missing. Kit’s husband Doug discovers the body and immediately becomes a suspect in the death and theft. Kit springs into action once again to figure out who is responsible for the crimes. Her sleuthing takes her to the DC Public Library, the National Portrait Gallery, Ford’s Theatre, and the most ornate, beautiful rooms at the Library of Congress. At the end, Kit must put her own life on the line to retrieve her most valuable possession, which goes unexpectedly missing as she hunts down the killer. —book jacket

Feeling inspired after watching the latest rendition of The Odyssey? Voyage into classic literature and mythology with this week’s #BookfaceFriday. Check out Beowulf by Anonymous

#BookFaceFriday “John Adams” by David McCullough
A government of #BookFaces, and not of men.
Start the celebration early for America’s 250th birthday with this week’s #BookFaceFriday, “John Adams” by David McCullough ( Simon & Schuster, 2002). You can find this title as well as McCullough’s “1776” and “The American Spirit” as a book club kit for your library. It’s also available as an Audiobook through Nebraska OverDrive Libraries. Our model this week is a new addition to the Nebraska Library Commission! Welcome to Michael Richey, our new Library Technology Support Specialist. He came here from North Platte, Nebraska where he worked as a Technology Assistant at the North Platte Public Library. It was there that he discovered his passion for working with technology as well as designing and creating things. His favorite types of books are fantasy books, specifically ones that go into depth about the ecology of the fictional world and its inhabitants. His current favorite book is A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan. In his free time he can often be found taking pictures with his camera, playing video games, making things, or whatever other hobby of the week he’s fallen into (which lately has been calligraphy). Welcome aboard Michael!

“A large book collection is the best recipe for happiness I ever heard of”… Okay, so the quote is actually “A large income,” not book collection, but for us, that pretty much means the same thing. Our Book Club Kit collection has 2,491 titles, and is bolstered by generous donations from book clubs and libraries across Nebraska. We’re springing forward through time this weekend with daylight savings, but this week’s #BookfaceFriday is going much further!

Wells.“This book being one of the forerunners in time traveller genre throws light on a completely different kind of future from the conventional techie high-fi version. This book introduced me to a unique possibility.
H.G Wells has done an excellent job by describing the minute details about the future earth and making us imagine the world he envisioned. His creativity and attention to detail amazed me. The book was written in the 1890s and yet is still a masterpiece and relevant now.”
