Throwback Thursday: Omaha, December 1, 1911
This week’s #ThrowbackThursday is going back 111 years!
This black and white photograph shows a view of Omaha, Nebraska on December 1, 1911. The view is looking northwest from 5th and Jackson Street. The Omaha Foundry, located at 507 Jackson Street, can be seen at the lower right corner of the photo. The long narrow buildings oriented north and south are the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Freight Depots, office located at 815 Farnam Street. In the distance, you can see the large buildings located in downtown Omaha.

Throwback Thursday: United State Liberty Bell Train
Happy #ThrowbackThursday from Nebraska Memories!
This week, we have a 5 x 7 black and white photograph print of the Liberty Bell on a railroad car stopped in McCook in July of 1909. The Liberty Bell traveled across the country on a number of trains to be displayed at special events. This ended in the 1930s when it was determined to be unsafe to keep moving the bell from place to place.
This image is published by McCook Public Library and is owned by the High Plains Historical Society and Museum. Together, they digitized photographic prints from the society’s collection. These images document early growth of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad in McCook, Nebraska, and the surrounding area. The collection spans from the early 1880s through the 1960s.

This week, we have a 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 inch black and white photograph from 1935 of “Mark Twain” the diesel train at the McCook C.B.&Q. Railroad station.
This image is published by McCook Public Library and is owned by the High Plains Historical Society and Museum. They worked together to digitize photographic images from the historical society’s collection. These images document early growth of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad in McCook, Nebraska. The collection spans from the early 1800s through the 1960s.

Throwback Thursday: Coal Loader on C.B. & Q. Railroad
Happy #ThrowbackThursday from Nebraska Memories!
This 8″x5″ black and white photograph shows the coal loader across from the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad depot. It is a 2-3 story wood structure with railroad tracks running along side of it. It was demolished in the 1950s.
This image is published by Crawford Public Library and is owned by the Crawford Historical Society & Museum. Together they digitized a number of images of the Crawford area from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. This collection features Crawford resident portraits, local businesses, and souvenir postcards.

Throwback Thursday: Engine Number 1945, C.B.&Q. Railroad
We’re chugging our way back to 1900 with this week’s #ThrowbackThursday!
This photograph shows the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad engine #1945 in Crawford, Nebraska. It served as the pusher engine up the Belmont Hill and through the Belmont Tunnel.
This image is owned by the Crawford Historical Society and Museum. In partnership with the Crawford Public Library, the Crawford Historical Society and Museum digitized a number of images in the Crawford area in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Throwback Thursday: C.B.&Q. Railroad Engine #2810
All aboard for this week’s #ThrowbackThursday!
This week’s #throwback features a 8×4″ black and white photograph of engine #2810 at a dirt road crossing. This image is owned by the High Plains Historical Society and Museum and is published to Nebraska Memories by the McCook Public Library.
The High Plains Historical Society and Museum worked in partnership with the McCook Public Library to digitize photographic images from the society’s collection. These images document the growth of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad in McCook, Nebraska, and the surrounding area. The collection spans a time period from the early 1880s to the 1960s.
