#BookFaceFriday “Chasing Bright Medusas” by Benjamin Taylor

This week’s BookFace is brand new to our collection! Next week, December 7th, we’ll be celebrating Willa Cather’s 150th birthday. What better way to get the party started than with highlighting all of Cather’s works, as well as nonfiction titles about Willa Cather, like “Chasing Bright Medusas: A Life of Willa Cather” by Benjamin Taylor (Viking, 2023.) This title is available as an eBook and Audiobook on Nebraska Overdrive Libraries, we also have several of Cather’s books on Nebraska Overdrive Libraries, including My Ántonia, Death Comes for the Archbishop, and Song of the Lark. NLC also has nine of Willa Cather’s books available as Book Club Kits. Let us know your favorite book by or about Willa Cather as we celebrate one of Nebraska’s most treasured authors.

Speaking of celebrations, today’s Bookface model is being honored today as she ends her time with us here at the Nebraska Library Commission and begins her retirement! New Book Available on BARD!
“The Saga of Hugh Glass: Pirate, Pawnee, and Mountain Man“ by John Myers Myers is now available on cartridge and for download on BARD!
This title relates the adventures of Hugh Glass, who was by turns a pirate, a captive of the Pawnee, and a mountain man who dragged himself 2,000 miles after being left to die in the wilderness.

Ever wonder what the librarians at the Nebraska Library Commission do in their free time? When we aren’t ironing our cardigans or putting our grocery lists in alphabetical order (just kidding, I think?), we’re probably reading juicy celebrity biographies like this week’s BookFace selection, “Johnny Carson” by Henry Bushkin (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 2013). This title is also the subject of this week’s Friday Reads post, written by Information Services Director, Lisa Kelly. Library Commission staff take turns writing weekly book reviews of titles they have enjoyed (and sometimes not!) in our weekly Friday Reads series. #BookFaceFriday “The Good Neighbor”
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood!
It’s a beautiful day for a neighbor with this week’s #BookFaceFriday! If the sight of a red cable knit cardigan brings a smile to your face, and our opening line has a jingle playing in your mind, this is the book for you. “The Good Neighbor: The Life and Work of Fred Rogers” by Maxwell King (Harry N. Abrams, 2018). It’s a New York Times bestseller and the 2018 Goodreads Choice Award Winner for History & Biography. This book is a part of our NLC Book Club Kit collection and I can’t think of a better way to add some nonfiction to a book club!

#BookFaceFriday “Cora Du Bois”
Relax everyone, it’s time for #BookFaceFriday!
We decided to change it up a bit this week and choose a book from our permanent collection. We absolutely loved the cover on Susan C. Seymour’s “Cora Du Bois: Anthropologist, Diplomat, Agent (Critical Studies in the History of Anthropology)” (University of Nebraska Press, 2015). As part of our permanent collection it’s available for check out to anyone. Just ask our amazing Information Services staff! This title is published by the University of Nebraska Press, which we collect from for our state document program. In 1972, the Nebraska Legislature created the Nebraska Publications Clearinghouse. Its purpose is to collect, preserve, and provide access to all public information published by Nebraska state agencies.
