Basic Skills 2026 Schedule

The 2026 Basic Skills course schedule is now posted!

The classes are also posted on the NLC Training and Events Calendar (on the course start date).

  • These Basic Skills courses are all online and free to any Nebraska resident or anyone employed in a Nebraska library.
  • The courses are each open for about two weeks at a time. You do not need to be logged in at any specific meeting times – just complete the work when it’s best for your schedule.
  • The “Communication” class is available to take at any time!
  • Registration for “Customer Service” class is open until January 23rd. The class will start on February 2nd.

Learn at Your Own Pace With SkillSoft Classes

skillsoftlogoSkillSoft self-paced online classes are now available to Nebraska library staff members. The Nebraska Library Commission has signed a contract with WebJunction to provide online classes from SkillSoft, using their SkillPort portal.  There are over 450 classes in the SkillSoft catalog, most of them on desktop or computer-related skills.  So if you want to improve your Excel skills, or learn about  network security or brush up on any of a number of things, these classes will work for you.  Most classes take about an hour to complete.  You will earn C.E. credits.  For more info and to get started, see “Free Online Classes for Library Staff Members!” at http://nlc.nebraska.gov/CE/skillsoft.aspx.
