My personal collection of books isn’t very big, just filling two shelves. The genres vary, with some books being more recent finds and others being books I’ve had for most of my life. This book falls into that latter category. Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg by Gail Carson Levine was one of my favorite books as a young girl who loved fairies. The illustrations by David Christiana are absolutely magical, the bright colors and soft quality really draws the reader into the world of Never Land, with new illustrations every few pages and some full spreads placed in between chapters.

The book itself is the first in what became the Disney Fairies series, of which I’ve also kept several from my childhood collection, though this one stands above the rest with it’s hardback print and larger pages, leaving more room for the illustrations to shine. These books are eventually what became the Disney Fairies movie series as well.

The premise takes Tinkerbell from Peter Pan, and places her into the world of Pixie Hollow where every fairy is meant to have a talent. There are nature fairies who are good with plants, water fairies who can manipulate water, fast-flying fairies who are quicker than the others… the list goes on. “Fairy Dust and the Quest for the Egg” follows brand-new fairy Prilla who doesn’t know what her talent is, but must join a mission to save the Never egg while finding out her place in the world. It’s a fun read that’s got emotional beats and an interesting look into the world of Disney Fairies.
