2020 Women’s Vote Centennial Celebration

The year 2020 marks the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women’s constitutional right to vote. This historic centennial offers an unparalleled opportunity to commemorate a milestone of democracy and to explore its relevance to the issues of equal rights today. The Women’s Vote Centennial Initiative, a collaboration of women-centered institutions, organizations, and scholars from across the US, works to ensure that this anniversary, the fight to achieve the 19th amendment, and the subsequent efforts of women of color to receive their equal rights, are commemorated and celebrated throughout the United States. We encourage you to hold an event in your community related to the centennial and the broader women’s equality movement. Groups across the nation are starting commissions, building monuments, and holding thought provoking conversations. Following are links to an Introduction to 2020 Women’s Vote Centennial, “A Few Key Suffragists,” and the Women’s Vote Centennial Initiative Toolkit to assist as you plan centennial events, memorials, EqualiTeas, and conversations in your local community. Together, we will ensure that the stories of the women who changed history are shared and celebrated throughout the US in 2020.
