Nebraska Librarians Invited to Participate in Snapshot Day

The Nebraska Library Association is gearing up for “Nebraska Snapshot Day 2012: A Day in the Life of Nebraska Libraries.” You can participate in this advocacy event any day during the week of April 15-21, 2012.

Snapshot Day is an opportunity for you to take a look at all that your library accomplishes in a single day. We encourage you to collect usage statistics, photos, videos and stories from your library from the one day you choose. This will be great information to share with your library board, school administration, municipal officials and the news media. Additionally, the Nebraska Library Association will compile all the information sent in and will publish statewide data that can be used to advocate for libraries all across Nebraska.

ALL Nebraska libraries are invited to participate! Public, school, academic, tribal and special libraries are all invited to take a Snapshot of what their library does in one day. The more libraries that participate, the more complete our Snapshot will be.

For details on how to participate, go to the event website at http://snapshotnebraska.wordpress.com/.

I hope you’ll join us as we take a Snapshot of our Nebraska libraries!

Nebraska Snapshot Day 2012 is a project of the Nebraska Library Association. If you have any questions, please contact Robin Clark, Chair of the Legislative/Advocacy Committee, at robin.r.clark@gmail.com or Jessica Chamberlain, PLTS Vice-Chair, at 800-578-1014 or jchamberlain.nels@gmail.com.

Have Your Trustees Attended the Academy?

This set of five Webinars, each a little under an hour long, is available FREE to every public library trustee and public library director in Nebraska through the end of 2012.

By viewing the Webinars, library trustees can

  • become more effective community leaders
  • build skills in governing
  • learn communication and leadership techniques
  • earn board certification

Through over 400 viewings of Trustee Academy Webinars in the last year, a lot of Nebraska public library board members have already found out what great information the Trustee Academy offers.

Each of the five Webinars is self-contained, and can be viewed from almost any computer with Internet access, so board members can view individually or have a viewing party.  Contact Laura Johnson for your season tickets for the events.  She will send you the Web address and password to get you started on a great learning experience.

Nebraska Librarians Invited to Library Journal Design Institute in Denver

Nebraska Library Staff and Trustees are invited to attend the Library Journal Design Institute in Denver on May 4.

This free one-day educational seminar brings together leading architects, librarians, and vendors to address the challenges and opportunities we face in building anew, renovating, or upgrading existing buildings as we respond to changing user needs. Envision the 21st century library as it moves to a place that enables content creation at every age and spaces for collaboration, contemplation, and education.

The Design Institute gives participants the opportunity to network with vendors and colleagues as well as take part in two architect-led breakout sessions that deal with real-life design challenges submitted in advance by attendees. And for those seeking even more inspiration, our hosts will be offering a tour of local libraries on the day before the event.

The day is filled with thought-provoking and inspiring information on the future of library design that will open the door to a new world of possibilities for your library and community. For more information and a schedule of activities, see www.libraryjournal.com/designinstituteCO.
Space is limited to 100 attendees so sign up today!
